Samsung Galaxy S4 to sport five-inch 1080p HD display, claims insider

The next flagship smartphone from Samsung may feature an even larger, sharper and higher-resolution screen than its predecessor, reports suggest.

According to a source familiar with the South Korean giant?s plans, the handset unofficially dubbed the Galaxy S4 will boast a 4.99-inch Super AMOLED display rocking a full 1920 x 1080 HD resolution and a positively staggering 441 pixels per inch density.

This puts the display well over 100 ppi ahead of the iPhone?s Retina display, which sports an already impressive 326 ppi. The unnamed tipster described this leap as a step ?beyond the limits of the human eye?.

If that doesn?t get you salivating, the screen is also said to be both thinner and less power consuming, boosting the possibility of an even slimmer, longer-lasting kit.

Samsung Galaxy S4 placeholder

Although details are still thin on the ground, Sammy?s Next Big Thing is also mooted feature an Exynos 5 series processor with four Cortex-A15 cores at 2GHz and an octa-core Mali-658 GPU for bona fide ?superphone? credentials.

However, despite persisting rumours of a flexible OLED display, we reckon that?s still a non-starter.

Even less likely is that the Galaxy S4 might crop up at CES 2013 in January, as some industry sorcerers have forecast. Samsung is almost sure to announce the handset at one of its Unpacked events around late April or early May.

Keep ?em peeled for more Samsung Galaxy S4 news and rumours in the months ahead.
