Barbie dolls are often labelled as nothing but a pretty face. It?s time for the glamorous chick to welcome a new family member - Bald Barbie ? due to be created next year for children with cancer.
?The doll will boast a variety of wigs and hats, as well as all sorts of trendy accessories. Unlike the average doll, Barbie?s new version won?t be sold in retail stores but will be donated to hospitals, ?directly into the hands of children who can most benefit from the unique play experience?.
Toymaker Mattel has announced plans to produce the new doll as a reaction to an online campaign led by two mothers whose kids lost hair following cancer treatment.
Their ?Bald and Beautiful Barbie? campaign was launched on facebook to encourage the toy manufacturer to create a hairless Barbie. As a result, over 150,000 people have joined the women, calling on Mattel to create a bald doll which children with cancer can relate to.
Mattel?s new Barbie will provide girls with a ?traditional fashion play experience.?
?For those girls who choose, the wigs and head coverings can be interchanged or completely removed,? the company promised.
