Barclays employees boost Romney campaign

LONDON (AP) ? The former chief executive of Barclays dropped out of Mitt Romney's Thursday night fundraiser in London, but Bob Diamond had already sent a check for $2,500.

So have 82 others who listed their employer as Barclays or Barclays Capital on U.S. Federal Election Commission records, including two who gave the maximum to the Romney campaign, both in 2011 and 2012. One person gave the maximum to Barack Obama.

The role of Barclays bankers as significant contributors to Romney's campaign has drawn attention since Barclays became the first bank to admit that employees were involved in manipulating a key market index, the London interbank offered rate (LIBOR), a scandal which cost Diamond his job.
