K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune is reporting that the Bulls are shopping Richard Hamilton, after a disappointing debut season with Chicago. Rip played in only 28 games during the abbreviated NBA season and played only 25 minutes per game, good for the lowest percentage of games played of his career and the fewest minutes per game since his rookie season.
Observant Pistons fans have seen Hamilton's decline coming for several years now. Since the 2008-2009 NBA season, Hamilton has only played in 196 of 312 regular season games (63%), and his overall production has been in steady decline since his peak in 2007-2008 (see here and here). Far from being the missing piece the Bulls were hoping for, Hamilton has merely clogged up the rotation and the cap.
Unfortunately for the Bulls, trading aging, injured players isn't easy, and according to the report, the Bulls haven't been able to drum up any interest.
Like all of the Going to Work Pistons, Rip has a special place in the hearts of many Pistons fans, and I hope he finds a productive role on a good team to close out his career.
