Recruiting Help for Small Businesses ? Business in You

The majority of small businesses, especially those just starting out, don?t have any employees. But there may come a time ? hopefully ? when a business?s success builds to the point that demand exceeds the owner?s individual capacity. If and when that time comes, here are some resources to help small businesses with the process of recruiting employees.

Job Centre Plus offers key services specifically for small businesses, including:

  • Recruitment Advice and Support - This can include pre-job training, reviewing your recruitment process, and/or setting up mentoring opportunities within your company
  • Small Business Recruitment Service - On an individual basis, this service provides access to specialist advisors who can help with everything from the wording of a job vacancy to helping you find the best person for the job. They can also provide information on the local job market and offer continued service after you?ve hired someone
  • Work Trials - Take on a person in a temporary, volunteer capacity, to see if they are a good fit before making a final decision

Businesses can post vacancies on the newly-released Universal Jobmatch to help you find the candidates that match your requirements.

For business owners unsure if they need full-time or long-term help, an intern or apprentice might be suitable. For help with recruiting for these types of vacancies, visit the Graduate Talent Pool or the National Apprenticeship Service.
